This piece is a tribute to the beauty and strength of the black body and is inspired by the story of Sarah Baartman, a black woman who was subjected to abuse and exploitation as a spectacle in the 19th century.

The Delicate Form is a celebration of the resilience and grace of the black body, and serves as a reminder that despite the cruel and unjust treatment of our ancestors, the black body remains beautiful and deserving of respect. The lightbulb in the center of the piece symbolizes the intelligence and inner beauty that lies within each and every one of us, and represents the shift in focus from the body to the mind.

The initial design and construction of this lamp were a joint effort between designers in the United States and artisans in West Africa (Nigeria).
